The Sidebar by NYABJ | A Guide to Pay Equity for Black Journalists and Media Makers

ROLE: Host; Producer; Editor

Salary transparency has become the law of the land in New York City, which now tops the list of most expensive global cities. By requiring employers to include salary ranges on all job listings, the law is being hailed by some as a “transformative step toward wage equity,” but what impact will it have on Black and brown workers trying to keep up with the exorbitant cost of living?

In this episode, producer CAROLYN ADAMS explores pay equity, earnings gaps and the pandemic with editor HASANI GITTENS (The City) and economist MICHELLE HOLDER (CUNY John Jay). Plus, we listen in to some taboo money conversations with our fellow Black journalists and media makers at “the ultimate creative homecoming”.
